The Story of The Dark Urge

The Dark Urge, or “Durge” as they’re commonly named within the fandom, is a playable character within Baldurs Gate 3, which quickly sets them apart from our other antagonists. As the Durge, you wake up with no memories of your past and a strange bloodlust which can overwhelm you frequently. This leads to several situations where you might wake up with blood on your hands from events that you don’t remember. The only thing you can do when this happens is try and figure out what happened, and what you will do after. Later within the game, it is revealed that your murderous actions are not for no reason.

You are visited by a servant of Bhaal one night, revealing that the Durge is a child of Bhaal, otherwise known as a Bhaalspawn. Bhaal, the god of murder, has been the one influencing your actions and gave you the strong urge to murder. At this point, the game presents the player with a choice they can make. Either give in to their impulses and desire to kill, or resist. Resisting the urge gives the player and the Durge a chance at redemption and freedom from their god while embracing the urges sends the Durge into a decent of monstrous power and chaos.
